Global Footwear Company Expands EDC to 41,000 Sq. Meters
SKECHERS EDC SPRL, which is Iocated at ProLogis Park in Liège, Belgium, serves as the distribution facility for SKECHERS product to 12 European countries.
“We shipped approximately three and a half times more pairs of shoes out of our SKECHERS European distribution centre in 2008 than we did when we first opened it in 2002,” began Michael Greenberg, president of SKECHERS.
“We believe we have great growth potential in each of the 12 countries we have built a direct business in. The popularity of our SKECHERS brands continues to grow as we introduce fresh styles and the addition of fashion footwear from Marc Ecko and Zoo York has resulted in more opportunities — and the need for increased warehouse space and shipping capabilities.”
“The linked facility will triple our storage capacity and enhance our distribution three-fold as we move into a partially automated pick-and-pack system,” stated David Weinberg, SKECHERS’ chief operating officer. “We’re confident that this will improve the efficiency of logistics operations necessary to leverage our distribution centre costs and meet the increased demand for our product.”
The new SKECHERS facility in Liège will be partially automated, allowing the EDC to receive, store, retrieve, pack and ship product through a high-tech material handing system.
