Tweed, an association of renewable energy sector companies, will go operational at the start of 2008. It is expected to comprise more than 30 businesses and will have 3 main lines of activity.
Following Technologies wallonnes de l'image, du son et du texte [Wallonia Image, Sound and Text Technologies] ("Twist"), which was officially christened in October, a new cluster is coming to fruition in Wallonia. This is Technologies wallonnes de l'énergie renouvelable et de l'environnement durable [Wallonia Renewable Energies and Sustainable Environment Technologies] ("Tweed").
"Tweed" activities will cover three fields: the renewable energy operation and production industry (wind, biomass, co-generation, etc.), energy efficiency and climatic impact in industry (CO2 burial technique, etc.), and also green products and services (hybrid engines, etc.).
The new cluster is expected to take the form of an ASBL and, once recognised, it should qualify for regional aid. At present around thirty businesses have expressed an interest in "Tweed", including some companies of no mean stature: ACV Manufacturing, Shanks, Axima, Fabricom, CMI, Nexans, Sun Technics, Greenwind, Cegelec, Suez, Xylowatt, etc. The total number of businesses involved, however, is over a hundred.
